Accessibility

Our commitment to ensuring this website is accessible to everyone, regardless of ability or technology.

Our Commitment

Midnapore Institute of Education (MIE) is committed to ensuring that our website is accessible to all users, including those with visual, auditory, motor, and cognitive disabilities. We continually work to improve the digital experience and apply relevant accessibility standards.

We aim to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at Level AA, as published by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C). These guidelines explain how to make web content more accessible to people with disabilities.

Accessibility Features

Keyboard Navigation

All interactive elements on this website — including navigation menus, forms, and buttons — can be accessed and operated using a keyboard alone, without requiring a mouse.

Screen Reader Support

Our pages use semantic HTML5 elements, ARIA landmarks, descriptive alt text for images, and proper heading structure to support screen reader users effectively.

Text Resizing

The website layout is fully responsive and supports browser-level text resizing up to 200% without loss of content or functionality.

Colour Contrast

We have ensured sufficient contrast ratios between text and background colours across the site to meet WCAG 2.1 AA requirements for readability.

Descriptive Links

All hyperlinks are written with descriptive, meaningful text to help users understand where each link leads, particularly for screen reader and keyboard users.

Form Labels

All form fields include clearly associated labels and appropriate input types to assist users relying on assistive technologies or voice input software.

Known Limitations

While we strive for full accessibility compliance, some areas of our website may not yet fully meet all WCAG 2.1 AA criteria. These include:

  • Some older PDF documents (such as historical notices) may not be fully accessible to screen readers. We are working to provide accessible HTML alternatives.
  • Embedded third-party content (such as Google Maps) may have accessibility limitations outside our direct control.
  • Some video content may not have captions. We aim to add captions progressively as content is updated.

We are actively working to address these limitations and welcome feedback from users to help us prioritise improvements.

Some content and services on this website are provided by third parties, including embedded maps, social media widgets, and payment portals. We cannot guarantee the accessibility of third-party content but encourage our service providers to meet accessibility standards.
